3. Stay in a yurt

I'm no stranger to camping, or glamping for that matter. Back in 2012 I went through a little stage, staying in a tipi for my hen do...

Before you ask, the theme of the hen do was 'Dress as Men'. That way we could keep warm and be comfortable whilst drinking in a field to cover bands! Read more about it here.

And then Stuart and I stayed in a 'glamping' tent for our honeymoon in Devon a few weeks later (it rained almost the whole time!)

Since then though, when I've gone away I've stuck to B&B's and hotels. However I've always wanted to stay in a yurt, and decided this could be one of my 52 New Things in 52 Weeks! We had already decided to pop down to the Isle of Wight for a few days, and as August is peak holiday time a lot of the B&Bs were booked up, so I turned to AirBnB. And found just what I wanted....

Isn't it just perfect? A extremely nice lady called Sue had it set up in her charming back garden. It had everything we needed including, a proper bed, heating, tea, coffee and toast making facilities and wifi! To top it all off it was beautifully decorated. You could tell a lot of thought had been put into all the details. I loved it from the first second I walked through the door.

There was also a small summer house across from the yurt where we had breakfast.

I hadn't realised breakfast was included when I booked but each morning Sue brought down a little basket of treats, ranging from croissants, bread, homemade jam, fruit, smoothies, fresh orange juice and even scrambled eggs. There was a little thrill every time we opened the basket to see what she had included. I didn't take any photos though, because all of that went straight in my mouth!

The icing on the cake for me were Sue's pet ducks. Seriously, if an animal is in the vicinity I am in my element. Sue had four Indian Runner ducks and I could have spent all day watching them waddle around.

At the very bottom of the garden there was a lovely view across into the forest.

In case you hadn't figured it out yet, I really enjoyed staying in the yurt. It was an extremely pleasant place to base ourselves for a few days. Sue was the perfect host, there when you needed her, but out of sight when you wanted the place to yourself. The small downsides of having to put your trainers on to go up to the toilet and slight road noise from the front of the house were easily outweighed by all the good stuff. And did I mention it had fairy lights!

I would definitely recommend this, and would be keen to go back. Even when it rained the yurt was cosy and warm. I would also recommend a trip over to the Island (but then again, I am biased!)

Wake up and be awesome
