Day Trip to Bournemouth & no. 1. Eat fish and chips on a seaside pier

If you've been reading this blog for a while you would have seen I set myself the challenge to complete all 50 items on the Bucket List for Brits. And if you've been reading you will have seen that I haven't really attempted/tried of the tasks. Originally I had given myself a year to complete all the items, and a year has come and gone without the list being depleted. Although I have been rubbish at the challenge, the items on this list are still interesting so I am now planning to try and achieve them all, just without a set timeline.

So without further ado I decided to start afresh with number one on the list - eat fish and chips on a seaside pier. Despite my beach side upbringing I am not a huge fan of fish, and can safely say I haven't eaten fish and chips on a pier before. So Stuart and I jumped in our new car and headed to Bournemouth.

We parked down by Boscombe Pier and took a gentle stroll towards the bigger Bournemouth Pier. The beach is a beautiful sandy beach, and although it was a bit windy the sun was shining and the sky was blue. You couldn't ask for a nicer day.

After about a twenty minutes wander we reached Bournemouth pier and headed towards a restaurant on the end. I was hoping they'd be a take away so we could sit on a bench and eat our lunch straight out of the paper like a postcard, but the restaurant was for eat in only. We decided to stick with the classic and went for cod and chips. To make up for missing out on eating our meal as a take away the our meal was presented on newspaper, so that's something.

For my first experience of battered cod I wasn't very impressed. It was bland and flavourless - I've had tastier fish fingers! Stuart agreed but tells me that normally cod is much tastier, we were just unlucky that our seaside fare was so disappointing. However the view and the location more than made up for it.

There was only one way to finish off our day, after a disappointing lunch we had to make sure dessert made up for it - and you can't beat a Mr Whippy at the beach.
