As previously mentioned we were staying in a motel relatively close to Venice Beach. The walk was a little further than we anticipated but the beach more than made up for it. Although it was similar to Long Beach, with miles of white sand it was much cleaner. Unfortunately for us it seemed we had picked the only cloudy week to visit LA.
However a little wind and a lot of cloud wasn't going to stop us enjoying ourselves, we couldn't test out the water and go for a swim so we did the second best thing; hired some bikes to cycle along the beach to Santa Monica. It was a lovely route, nice and flat curving around the shore, past Muscle Beach (as it was chilly there were no body builders out) until the Santa Monica pier came into view.
In front of the pier are a bunch of workout apparatus, although we had already cycled past the famous Muscle Beach I believe this is where Muscle Beach originally started. Stuart decided to see how he would fare on some of the equipment.
| He wasn't so good on the monkey rings... |
| but excellent climbing ropes. |
The pier reminded me of Lost Boys so I kept an eye out for any topless saxophonists, but to no avail.
After a while the clouds were blown away giving us a beautiful of the Hollywood hills and across into Malibu.
It was a beautiful beach and I would love to see what it is like when it is warm enough to go swimming, I imagine it is busy, buzzing and full of teeny weeny polka dot bikinis. However as we missed out on the bikinis we made sure to head back to watch the sunset on our last day.
