Two down, 48 to go...

Today I started on the Great British Bucket list and managed to complete two; number 40. See Tower Bridge raised and 41. Visit Borough food market, London.

I've been to Borough market a few times over the years but as mentioned in the original post, that doesn't matter, I have to do everything anew this year. The best time to go to the market is early in the morning, by about 11am the place is rammed and you can't really get round the stalls very easily. With this in mind I dragged myself out of bed and ended up at the market by 8.30am. I've never seen it so quiet and it was enjoyable to be able to wander about and take my time.

Laden down with bags full of fresh fruit (and a sneaky bottle of prosecco) I headed towards Tower Bridge to see it raised. You can find out when the bridge will be raised by checking out this website. At 11am the SV Adventura was due to go through so I made sure I was in a good spot with lots of time to spare.

New London verses old London

I wasn't sure what type of boat the SV Adventura was but I was hopeful it was going to be majestic, but as you'll see from the next photos it was a little, well, underwhelming.

Up she goes

And here comes the boat!

Despite the boat being a little smaller than I expected it was fun to see the bridge raised. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out on the website and head back if it's due to be raised when I'm nearby (perhaps with a bigger, more impressive boat!). And now I only have 48 tasks left to complete!
